I Want to Make Something Beautiful

Last week I made a quilt. Yes, it’s just a t-shirt quilt. And no, it’s not perfect. But I love it. It’s full of memories…

The Tragedy of Immoral Means

Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. It is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everybody blind. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding; it seeks to annihilate rather than to convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends by defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Last night I was listening to the radio and came upon a show where they were talking about the drone strikes that have been made under the Obama administration. I usually steer clear of national news stations, because I feel like they’re always biased, one way or another. This broadcast drew me in, though, because it began by calling out all Presidents, regardless of their party lines, as being war criminals if they supported indiscriminate drone strikes on foreign powers.
I was shocked.

Simply Fashion: The Color…Pink

Confession: I’m not a big “pink” person. I’m more a fan of purple; however, it’s Valentine’s Day, and since we all know that St. Valentine was the patron saint of pink and greeting cards (right?), I should probably rock it.

Dreaming of…Snow

So, the weekend’s over and it’s back to the everyday routine. I’m sure half of the country is still in bed, dreaming of a 49ers win. Me, I’m dreaming of snow.

Maybe not for month’s on end, but all I want is to wake up to white powder covering the ground, take a walk as the flakes softly fall…and maybe even build a snowman.

Watch This: The Newsroom

In high school, my friends and I would have parties where we would hang out and watch The West Wing.

That’s right, we were politics nerds.

When I found out that Aaron Sorkin, the maker of The West Wing, had another show on HBO…I was more than a little excited.

And after watching the first season in three days (yikes), I’m officially obsessed.

The Great Gatsby

great gatsby book

I must not have taken the right High School English class, because I never read The Great Gatsby until a few weeks ago. It was one of those books that you hear is amazing, but figure it can only be so-so, because really…what book ever lives up to the hype?

I’m here to tell you -- it really is amazing.

And now I find myself dreaming of 1920s parties in Long Island mansions, flapper dresses, and top-down convertible rides into the city.
